Enhanced
Healthy School Status has been developed as a result of
some schools in Northamptonshire who have achieved National
Healthy School Status enquiring how they can extend beyond
the minimum criteria to maintain momentum and prepare
for re-validation.
Enhanced Healthy
School Status is an entirely voluntary process which will be
supported by the Northamptonshire Healthy Schools Programme
and their partners. If schools decide not to work towards Enhanced
Healthy School Status it would be expected that over the 3 year
period these schools hold National Healthy School Status they
would continue to develop Healthy School practices so that revalidation
of status is straightforward.
Enhanced
Healthy School Status:
• Is not an additional or further standard, but an opportunity
for schools to extend and
strengthen existing healthy school status
• Will support schools towards revalidation
• Is a process of deepening the core themes to move from
meeting minimum criteria to
achieving best practice or widening work done in
schools to see how other
opportunities contribute to healthy schools
• Is the process of engaging and supporting schools to
choose and follow their own
agenda to address the needs of their pupils and
wider school community with the
minimum bureaucracy and maximum support
• Is identifying need; planning to meet that need; identifying
possible outcomes and
measuring those outcomes.
