Healthy Schools Status
Schools must meet the criteria across the four core themes using the whole school approach In order to achieve Healthy School Status.

From April 2011 all schools need to self validate and send their completed audit and outcomes to their Advisor by post or email.

Annual Review
This will change names to become "Whole School Review" from April 2011, please see the relevant section below.
Once schools have evidenced all areas of the Whole School Review document, they can send it to their Healthy Schools Advisor for validation.

Self Validation Form

Quality Assurance
The Quality Assurance Group consists of Local Programme Coordinators and partners from Health and Education and their role is to;

  • Identify, celebrate and disseminate effective practice
  • Ensure consistency in Healthy Schools Status across all schools
  • Seek clarification, where necessary, from schools regarding minimum evidence
  • Undertake moderation of a 10% sample of schools

Once a school has submitted their self-validation form or whole school review form to the Local Healthy Schools Coordinator it will then be taken to the Quality Assurance Group for discussion and agreement of Healthy Schools Status.

Moderation
In order to ensure quality a sample of schools applying for Healthy School Status and the Whole School review will be selected for moderation by the local Quality Assurance Group (QUAG) to review criteria and minimum evidence against identified outcomes. Schools will be selected at the QUAG stage for moderation.

Whole School Review
The whole school review tool is completed by schools to maintain their current Healthy Schools status and is undertaken when schools reach the 2 year anniversary of achieving status. It is then completed every two years and submitted to the local programme.

Schools who have recently completed status can move straight into the enhancement model without the need to complete a whole school review, although they must do one at the end of their enhancement work.

A copy of the whole school review can be obtained by contacting your Healthy Schools Advisor, or by clicking on the link below:
