GOOD PRACTICE

GOOD PRACTICE IN SCHOOLS

We have now archived all the examples of good practice we have shown from schools all over the county over recent years. If you are working on a particular project, take a look at what others have done – it may make your work run more smoothly.

All the examples are archived under project headings to make your search easier.

OPERATION WOODPECKER

OPERATION WOODPECKER

This is an operation mounted by Northamptonshire Police in partnership with Northamptonshire County Council. It is directed at underage drinking in the run up to Christmas, as well as at the criminal use of fake ID. It covers the sale of alcohol to underage persons, as well as the purchase or consumption of alcohol by underage drinkers. Young people found purchasing or drinking alcohol in licensed premises who are underage will expect to be issued with a £50 fixed penalty notice for disorder.

Those found using fake ID will be prosecuted under the Theft Act for obtaining property or services by deception.

Please pass this on to your pupils and should any school want input from your Youth and Schools Liaison Officer, please contact them direct.

ANTI-BULLYING WEEK

ANTI-BULLYING WEEK
20-24 November 2006

The slogan for Anti-Bullying week this year is ‘Bullying: See it. Get Help. Stop it.’ This supports the theme of the Bystander, focusing on the important role that witnesses can have in taking action to challenge and stop bullying.

The final day, Friday 24 November 2006, will be Blue Friday. This is a non-uniform day when children, young people and adults dress in blue and take part in a range of activities to demonstrate their commitment to work together to stop bullying.

A set of resources will be sent to all schools in England in late September/early October. Further sets and other resources are available to buy from the Anti-Bullying Alliance website - click on Anti-Bullying week link.

AWARDS LIST

Most of you will now be aware that the Healthy Schools Scheme has recently been restructured. This has been due to a national directive. This means that over the next few months the Gold*, Gold, Silver, and Bronze Award system will gradually be phased out, and a new Theme Award system will be introduced. Until the changeover is completed, we are pleased to continue to show your school under the old award scheme and celebrate the achievements you have made to date.

The remainder of the site for teachers will be updated in the coming months in line with the new scheme structure. If you have any queries please contact your Healthy Schools Adviser on the telephone numbers above.
